FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the NJ SpringProm?

The NJ SpringProm is a formal dinner dance for teen homeschoolers and their guests. NJ SpringProm was formed in 2003 so that homeschoolers could experience a night of elegance and good clean fun. This is an inclusive event. We are proud to support all guests of national or ethnic origin, race, religious belief, sexual orientation, and gender identity. If ever someone feels the atmosphere is not welcoming, please alert chaperones immediately.

How do I get tickets for the prom?

Go to the registration page, fill out the form and pay the appropriate fee.

Will there be a dress code for the prom?

The dress code is formal or semi-formal. You and your family decide on what is appropriate.

Tuxes and ballgowns, cocktail dresses and suits have all been worn. We support our prom-goers in presenting themselves in a manner which feels comfortable to them. Go to the registration page, fill out the form and pay the appropriate fee.

Is there a place for me to get dressed onsite?

We do not provide space to get to dressed. Dressing in the restrooms is not permitted.

How old do I have to be to attend the prom?

Attendees must have turned 13 by the date of the prom.

Can a non-homeschooler attend the prom?

A non-homeschooler may attend the prom as a guest of a current homeschooler. The guest must be at least 13 years old by the date of the prom.

What kind of music will be played at prom?

All kinds, including group dances emceed by our professional DJ. They encourage even our youngest attendees to the dance floor.

Music for the prom will be provided by professional DJ services.

How long is the prom? Four hours, from 6:00pm to 10:00pm. All attendees must have rides waiting for them at 10:00pm sharp.

When can my parents, family and friends enter the ballroom on prom night?

Parents are not permitted in the ballroom during  prom hours. If their child has not exited by 10:10, parents will be able to enter the ballroom to facilitate pick up. Pictures can be taken in the lobby between 5:30 and 6:00pm. However, we encourage you to take advantage of the beautiful beach setting across the street for photos.

Will anyone be taking photos during the prom?

Candid shots may be taken throughout the night, which will be available online a few weeks after the prom. A photo station will be available to create photo booth style memories.

Feel free to bring your own camera and share with us on Facebook and Instagram #NJSpringProm.

How will dinner be served?

There will be salads, a buffet dinner, beverages, topped off with dessert.

Please notify us of dietary restrictions. No outside food or drinks are permitted.

Will there be assigned seating at the prom?

We will assign seating based on the requests you make.

If two people both indicate they want to sit together,  they will be assigned to the same table.

Groups of friends may request sitting together, and every effort will be made to accommodate requests that match. However, there have been years in which one attendee list 6 friends, but each of those 6 friends has a list of 6 friends that do not all correspond to all the others. So, if eight friends, all want to sit together all of them must have all eight names. Otherwise, the prom committee will have to mix and match to the best of our ability.

Do teens arrive in Limos?

Some drive themselves, but most are escorted by their family.

Can I leave the prom before the prom is over?

If you are anticipating needing to leave early, you must follow our procedure.

If you are over 18, you can request a wristband that will allow you to leave early.

If you are under 18, a parent must request your wristband upon drop off with the time you need to leave. You will be permitted to leave at that time.

No one will be allowed to re-enter.

Do most teens come by themselves, in groups, or with an escort/date?

Homeschoolers attend the prom by themselves, in groups, with siblings or with a date. It’s a fantastic night to make new friends.

Can my parents chaperone?

At this time, all chaperone spaces are filled.
If you would like to be considered for next year, please let us know.

If you have more questions email them to the prom committee.
